That first picture up there, *points* (you gotta click ‘em, apparently Tumblr crops them in the main post), is a taste of just how awful I’ve let things slide in my home. I’m not going to go into details that will end up just sounding like excuses anyway, but I have some issues and I really needed someone from the outside to give me that shove, to say, “look, this is bad and overwhelming, but it can be done.” And that came in the form of Unfuck Your Habitat. Seeing other people with homes just as overwhelmingly scary as mine is in places, so overtaken with shit, but that they can control it and chip away at the mess in bits and pieces until it’s normal again is so unbelievably motivating and reassuring. I’ve been doing 20/10s every night, have discovered the amazingness that is the Magic Eraser and drain volcanoes, and am in the process of unfucking all the places that need it. The first main one was the windowsill in my bedroom, which is the “before” picture above. After two 20/10s, a trashbag full of crap, and a bunch of 409, the bottom picture is my “after”. The blinds need replacing, and the sill itself needs to be sealed and repainted, but that’s for another day.
I almost didn’t post a before, because it clearly is humiliatingly bad, but the thing that gave me the push I needed was seeing other people’s messes turned into awesomeness, so here’s mine!
