Unfuck Your Habitat

amyunicorn001 replied to your post: I live in a rental house, and our kitchen counter is basically a thin sheet of RUBBER over PLYWOOD. I have no idea what to use for cleaning it, and it is pretty sketchy. I have used a variety of cleaning products, and I never get cleaner than “light brown instead of the REALLY brown that it started with”. I think that at that point it is just removing bits of rubber, but who knows?! Any thoughts on cleaning gross rubber counters? Google is no help. (also I created a tumblr account just for this)

I’d almost be willing to suggest buying something to lay on top of it after you’ve cleaned/sanitized it. Whether it’s a piece of wood you can use as a surface or something like that.

Yeah, my second thought was a butcher block surface or something similar to put on top. In my many many years of sketchy rentals (which are, thankfully, behind me), this is one of the only things I’ve never encountered.
