We used the ant traps that are basically borax and sugar water. It’s effective and pet/child-safe.

Actually, vinegar DOES completely remove the scent trail. But you need to do more than that to really get rid of them. I’ve successfully used vinegar in combination with ant traps in the past.

It’s all about the baby powder. Cheap and smells good. Pour it in cracks/doorways/places of entry. Be careful not to kick up a mess though.

Raid! It really works! Sugar ants use scent trails to lead other ants inside. Normal soap and water, and vinegar, just don’t cut it. You have to break the trail and Raid works wonders, and kills them too.

Sprinkle cornmeal near doors and other points of entry. They take it back to the nest and they can’t digest it. It pretty much backs up their digestive systems and kills them. And when the queen dies, goodbye reproduction and goodbye ant colony.

CINNAMON! Put out cinnamon and ants will leave really quickly. It’s also cruelty-free and cheap. Just sprinkle liberally wherever the ants go.
