Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes

Recent Tweets @TeamUfYH
I have trouble motivating myself to clean, and the areas that get the messiest are, obviously, the ones that I spend the most time in, so I watch the mess grow and grow, having to stare at it every day, but my depression makes it hard for me to actually get up and do something about it until I know someone is coming over, so then I marathon until I'm exhausted. Suggestions?

Just start with five minutes. Set a timer and spend five minutes on the area directly around where you are now. It’s not a commitment or an investment. It’s just five minutes. If you feel up to it in a few hours or tomorrow, do another five minutes. If you have a spark of motivation, do one 20/10. But if you’re not feeling up to it, don’t push it. Just try to do at least five minutes a day, and then increase that whenever you’re feeling up to it. No more than 20 minutes without a break, though. Marathons are counterproductive.

And take a peek through the depression tag. We explore the depression/dirty house cycle quite a bit.
