My dad has kindly offered to pay me to unfuck his habitat while I'm home this summer, thus augmenting my pay from my unpaid internship. Hooray! I'm stuck on one big, bothersome task though: his carpet. I don't know what happened to it, but there's just tons of spots and stains of unknown origins on this thing. How do you get stains out of carpets? Other than that, can you recommend the basic set of ingredients needed to unfuck a habitat? Thanks!

For the carpet, rent a steam cleaner. Vacuum first, then go to town on it. Keep in mind, some stains may resurface after the carpet dries. This is generally because they’ve penetrated to the padding and will wick their way back up the carpet fibers with time.
