For 4000dollarhamnapkin: For smelly nasty stuff, try putting a mentholated cough drop in your mouth before starting - it may not entirely block the smell, but should at least help. (I’ve also had luck with the same trick for non-smelly disgusting messes, but that may be an autistic sensory quirk - menthol is very distracting, for me at least.) I’ve also heard that a dab of mentholated ‘vapo-rub’ type stuff under your nose is even more effective, but I haven’t tried it.
For the person who was wondering about how to deal with cleaning up something that smells bad: I sometimes use Vicks Vap-O-Rub (or the generic equivalent) under my nose. It blocks the smell while I’m working and makes me feel like I’m a CSI investigator being all investigatory. 8)
