A quick shout-out for Swiffer mops - You can use a plain old rag on your Swiffer mop, soaked in your favorite cleaning solution. When you’re done, just throw the rag in the laundry. It leaves the floors less sticky, is as convenient and cheap as a Swiffer mop (even cheaper because now you don’t have to waste your money on disposable pads soaked in questionable cleaners), and greener. The ladies at Mason Dixon Knitting have a pattern for reusable Swiffer pads, but a rag will work fine, too.

To that guy with the wall problem, I had to unfuck my habitat when the landlord did his yearly inspection about a week ago. My dad, my brothers, and my dad’s girlfriend all smoke in the house. My house was really dusty and the walls WERE yellow, we sprayed scrubbing bubbles all over the walls and wiped them off with an old-towel-turned-rag. The tar and dust came right off the walls! Scrubbing Bubbles are the shit.

I am new to the blog and so glad for the motivation - my kitchen is halfway unfucked thanks to you! As I was mopping up the random crap that the kids spilled on the floor, I realized I have the perfect solution for all the folks asking about an alternative for the Swiffer Wet Jet — try a Rubbermaid Reveal mop! Refillable containers that I fill w/ vinegar & warm water plus a few drops of essential oil, and an awesome machine washable microfiber pad. It does a great job, when I use it…

I have a tip for unfucking an overflowing war/floordrobe. Don’t know what to toss? Stick a post-it note on every. single. piece. of clothing. (Ok, underwear gets a pass.) When you wear something, remove its post-it. When you wash & put-it-away-goddamnit, use a different color tab or mark it with a 2. After a couple weeks, pull out everything that still has an original tab. Instead of all your clothes, you have just the infrequently worn stuff in a separate pile to go through and keep or toss.

As a follow-up to the post-it thing: 1) If you’re unsure about the adhesive on some materials, stick it to the care/size label instead, and 2) Obviously things like a suit or evening dress are not worn frequently. (Unless you’re James Bond, in which case, I’m totally envious.) I’m talking more about figuring out which of your bajillion tee shirts you don’t actually wear all that often, and are just taking up space you could be using to eliminate the floordrobe of ones you DO wear.
