Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes

I know you’ve posted about makeup before, but do you have any hints for storing/organising bottles of nail polish? That’s probably my biggest makeup indulgence and right now they’re just all jumbled in a box. I can’t see what colours are there, and any time I want to use one, I risk the structural integrity of the whole mess. Please tell me there’s a secret-women’s-business solution that I’m just not seeing.

I went to the beauty supply and bought a nail polish rack like they have in stores or salons. That may not be the best solution for everyone, though. So let’s hear it, people, what are your suggestions for nail polish storage?

  2. myowndamngod answered: I have about 200 bottles, and keep them in shoeboxes with fold-over lids. I covered the boxes with nice paper so they look nice on the shelf.
  3. nina-in-technicolor answered: Go through and toss anything empty/nearly empty/dry. You’ll be shocked how much that helps with organization.
  4. glitterlube answered: Ikea Helmer for polish junkies like me. There’s a knock off one from Michaels, or a cheaper plastic one from JYSK (where I got mine).
  5. inclines said: I have a high shelf with the polishes neatly lined up on the edge. It also adds colour to the room!
  6. iseulttoinjury answered: I have mine in a “train case” cosmetic box. It’s very handy.
  7. sabirah answered: My friend got a gorgeous spice rack from a thrift store and it holds nail polish (lots of bottles) really well

  13. adhdbrain answered: The Container Store has these clear plastic drawers that you can buy adjustable dividers for- they work great for my 250+ bottles.
  14. leopard-flowers answered: I reused an old Pirouline can, it works great and is portable because of the lid. You can test the colors on the can, too.
  15. minim-calibre answered: The Helmer or the Michael’s organizer. Only way to go after you reach critical mass.
  16. blissfulle answered: i got cd/dvd cardboard storage boxes from ikea. labeled “glitters” “lights” “darks” and “tools”. bc i have a lot of nail polish.
  17. glitternails answered: I have an Ikea Helmer. Perfectly sized drawers, and it comes in 3? colors!

  19. nightgigjo answered: If I have drawers storage space: those in-drawer spice racks like this: ikea.com/us/en/c…
  20. mamaliza answered: I have a ton of polishes. My solution: a spare drawer (or an Ikea Helmer), non-slip shelf liner, and lying the bottles on their backs.
  21. digitam answered: I have mine neatly lined up on top of a shelf in my bedroom, but then again, I probably only have about 30 bottles.
  22. asskaban answered: I keep mind in a clear plastic tub, and it’s much better than the canvas bag I used to have. It works for me.
  23. stuft answered: I also have mine in a spice rack—an old 2-tier one I painted.
  24. second-breakfast answered: Bleacher-style spice racks! They have nice clear ones at walmart and such and they’re pretty reasonably priced.

  29. aureliamedusa answered: I used a shoebox until my collection grew too large. Now I use a box large enough for the polish, remover, cotton pads, clippers, file, etc.
  30. didelphis answered: walmart.com/ip/Main… I bought these, painted them, and now they live in a drawer
  31. thisisrosiec answered: I line them up on a shelf of stuff that isn’t used often, like novels you’ve already read. They look pretty and are out of the way!

  37. kiaxet answered: You can always dab a bit of the color onto the top of the lid - that way you can see color without pulling them each out individually.
  38. nerdy-south said: There’s an ikea drawer thing (Helmer?) that is the perfect size.
  39. cupcakecore said: IKEA’s helmer is the gold standard for nail polish storage, but rubbermaid shoeboxes are great too, you can get a 5-pack at target. They’re clear and stackable, and I really like them. I love my helmer but ikea’s not as easy to get to for some.
  40. aescas answered: I bought a three-drawer organizer cube from Michael’s (tinyurl.com/cmqaurz) with a coupon. It’s big, but houses other things as well.
