So I was setting at my desk one night, bored, so looking through new apps I could download to my iPhone & iPad. I came upon UfYH, read about it & went on (I rarely buy apps). I went on, but in the back of my mind UfYH remained. I went back & read the description again. I read the reviews. I contemplated purchasing the app. I decided it was dumb to buy an app to help me clean my house when I could just wait until the motivation struck me. I contemplated some more. I went over in my mind all of the different approaches I had previously tried (over the last 6+ yrs. of being a house wife) to incorporate a good cleaning habit into my daily life. I thought this, surely, would be the same thing all over again - great start, miserable, quick death.
But, then I caved. I bought the app & promptly opened it to see just what the fuss was all about. I was so motivated as soon as I read the first random challenge! I was practically excited to try it out… to clean! Although, it was almost 2 a.m., so I decided I would wait & give it a go the next (technically the same) morning.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t try it the next morning. In fact, I think it was a couple of days before I actually said to myself, “I’m going to open this app & do whatever it tells me to!” On the days leading up to using the app, I sat down with my phone or iPad, whichever was handy at the time, & devised a weekly plan. Mondays I would focus on the kitchen, Tuesdays, living room, etc., etc… Well, the day I opened the app was bathroom day… Yay (note sarcasm). We live in house with 2 bathrooms actually, the master bath & the “dogs bathroom.” The latter is the bathroom that never actually gets used in the way a bathroom was meant to be used. Instead, all of the food/water bowls are set up in there. So, when I put “bathroom” on my weekly agenda, this room didn’t apply. No, the master bath is what my challenge was today & oh what a challenge it would be! Double sink vanity with large open area in the middle - THIS was my challenge. My hubby likes to leave his stuff on the counter top instead of utilizing the cute little basket I put on his side to throw his belongings into. My side is the real horror story though; Hair, hairspray, powdered make-up - not a great combo! Not only that, but it seriously had probably been 6 months since I’d even attempted to clean this area. So, the more loose hair & make-up that would fall, the more hairspray there was to stick it down even better & I use the mega hold hairspray too! When this job gets done, it’s an all day event, which is why it gets put off for so long. I’ve got to be really motivated to tackle this one!!! But, tackle I would, with the help of UfYH.
I unfortunately didn’t think (hadn’t found this site yet) to take before/after pics, but I did make that counter shine! The mirrors are clean, the hair & make-up are gone, the faucets are shiny! I even managed to scrub the toilet, but compared to, that was super easy. The shower & floor remain. My goal is to get to those this week, on Wednesday, I believe.
So, thank you UfYH! Without you, my bathroom would still be one big, sticky hairball! :)
