YO, can we rap for a few about the response to this “LOL, PC app” business?
1.) i totally get that you don’t have to be doing any of this, and you’ve put a lot of blood/sweat/tears/money into the iphone app to start with, and that an android app is in the works. i know that putting this shit out is STRESS^10; i know that you are in no way obligated to do anything for the crowd without smartphones. i know that it’s getting mad tiresome to continually field questions regarding the app’s cross-platform future. i get that. BUT,
2.) the way you responded to that question was pretty demeaning! let’s face it, in this day and age, people who don’t have smartphones have either A.) made the dedicated decision to go without smartphone features, or B.) are too poor to afford one. so your response is to tell them YOU HAVE TUMBLR AND TWITTER AND A FACEBOOK PAGE, as though those websites offer the exact same functionality as the app? sorry, but they don’t, you know they don’t, and we know they don’t. people with smartphones have access to those exact same sites, and your response to them wasn’t “deal with it”, either. my bad, poor ass PC users should be satisfied with what they have, and they should feel stupid for even inquiring, because duh. social media sites! totally the same as a paid app with special features you can’t get anywhere else.
3.) holy crap, did you see some of the responses to that post? maybe you could have a talk with your followers about not shitting on other people under the assumption that they only want the app because they’re lazy and using not having access to the app as an excuse to not do work? because that’s pretty fucking awful! there is zero evidence to support those assertions. nobody took a giant dump on android-havers for asking for an android app, but people who don’t have access to a smartphone are clearly lazy fucks who are only making excuses to avoid work? seriously?
so yeah: maybe next time, go with a simple “sorry, but I don’t have any plans for a PC version”? it gets your point across, and doesn’t offend any poor people in the crowd who would gladly drop for a smartphone app, but simply cannot afford to, and don’t want to be fed bullshit that what they have access to is Just As Good. i know you weren’t directly targeting poor people and going “HAHA SUCK IT POVERTYFUCKS”, and it was probably borne out of irritation at having to answer this over and over, and you have zero obligation to cater to the no-smartphone crowd, but the way you worded your response definitely hit us where it hurts. it was way more “shut up and deal” and not so much “i recognize and acknowledge your situation, but am not in a position to provide what you want”.
1) I didn’t even know “PC apps” were a thing (listen, I’m old, OK?), so I was treating that question as at least a partially tongue-in-cheek joke. I guess it wasn’t.
2) My intention was not to offend anyone, but intention has little bearing on reality, so I apologize that I answered in a manner that was offensive. I try to be careful about what words I choose, and clearly I was not careful there.
3) We actually have a great deal of fun at Android users’ expense when they’re the fifteenth person in a day to ask if the app will be coming out on Android. I had to update most of my permanent links to reflect the answer to that question.
4) We should all make an effort to treat each other with a little more respect. I should, as well. I apologize.
