Hello! My husband and I have just moved from a fairly urban one bedroom apartment into a rural three bedroom house. My question is twofold. First, how do I wrap my mind around cleaning a house that is over three times the size as my former apartment? Is there a schedule you recommend? Second, this home has been in my family for a hundred years, as has the electric stove. How do I clean off years of caked on dirt from the heating elements and the roof of the oven? Thanks!!!

First, don’t look at the whole house. Set up a rotation that allows you to only deal with a small chunk of home at a time. The kitchen, bathroom(s), and master bedroom should be dealt with at least a little (5-10 minutes each) every day, and the other rooms can be put on a one or two 20/10 rotation a week.
As for the oven? (Green cleaning fans, avert your eyes.) Get a can of Easy-Off. Make sure the area is well ventilated. Follow the instructions. Wipe away the crud.
