Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes

I hesitated to post this because it was “only” a 20/10’s worth of time, and I didn’t finish what I wanted to finish today.  But maybe by posting this, and showing myself how much even 20 minutes helped, I will be inspired to do another 20 minutes tomorrow morning to finish it.

This was one of those tidying jobs that I keep putting off.  It’s too hot outside.  I’m light sensitive.  Child will wake up in a panic if I’m not in the house.  I have a million excuses.  But today is Saturday, so husband was still in the house and it was overcast, if not exactly cold.  And, most importantly, we have workmen coming on Monday who will want to set up their stuff without squishing rotten fruit or breaking child’s toys.  So if not now, when?

Before, the back yard in two pictures:

I got a bag and a pair of nitrile gloves and did a 20 minute spree.  I’m not fast, and I have joint issues that make bending over to pick things off the ground extra slow and mildly painful (but it’s good exercise to loosen those joints, so it’s a useful sort of painful.)  I tidied child’s sand toys, and picked up about half the fallen fruit.

I still have a bunch of persimmons on the ground, as you can see.  And I was in no shape to wrestle with the (busted) hose.  But it looks better than it did.  And as a reward for going out to the back yard, I get fresh figs for breakfast:
