Unfuck Your Habitat

Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes

I have a confession to make:  I have been an Unfuck Your Habitat supporter from day one, frequently recommending the site to anyone who will listen.  When I bought my iPad, before I even had a habitat to unfuck (whilst living in a hotel and looking for a Gainesville home), my first app purchase was the UFYH one.  I’ve seen what it does for people, and I just really fucking like the person in charge of it all (hint:  she is a wonderful person to know, online and in person).

So it’s pretty shameful for having all that cheerleading…and never using it.  I could give you various Reasons (and they are pretty decent Reasons, I promise), but I’m pretty sure Madam UFYH don’t need my excuses, so I’ll stfu with that.  Instead, I’ll tell you that I think I’m ready to do work, son.

We’ve been living in this home for about a month and a half, and have made almost zero progress in unpacking, organizing our things, or cleaning.  Again, there’s Reasons, but that’s not important.  We all have Reasons, especially those of us with mental or physical illnesses impeding our progress.  I just got tired of those Reasons—and living in a mess—tonight.  So I tackled a couple of invisible corners—places where you get so accustomed to the clutter/mess/dirt/gross that you don’t even notice it anymore, even though it’s pretty terrible.

Invisible corner #1:  this pile of crap has been in our bathroom since we moved in.  All of our toiletries and other important bathroom things we packed in our suitcases (instead of our moving boxes) started here because our new bathroom has exponentially less space than our old one, and we didn’t know what to do with them.  They stayed there because inertia and Reasons.

The mat is in the wash to get the detritus out, and I mopped the floor and wiped the floorboards where the junk was spread out.  It’s hard to tell because the ‘Pad doesn’t take the greatest pix.  Bonus:  changed the bathroom trash (because it was full of things I threw away out of that mess pile).

Invisible corner #2:  the transition from the living room to the back of the house.  There’s still a lot of boxes and homeless stuff in the living room (like our li’l table, which we still haven’t found the foot to), but the random items are now in their proper rooms at least, the table Windexed, and I vacuumed the hall, half the living room, and half the dining room.

I’ve recently changed when I take my meds, and I’m finding I have more energy and less pain, so I’m hoping to be able to show you some even awesomer progress photos soon!  Thanks, Unfuck Your Habitat!  I promise I’ll both support AND participate from now on!  :)

Moving forward, no  matter the speed, is always improvement. :D
