I am a chronically messy and disorganized person with some pack rat tendencies. My mum grew up poor and has struggled her whole life with getting rid of things and accumulating things she doesn’t need because now she can buy stuff.
My dad, who also grew up poor, had a hoarder mother. He throws away EVERYTHING. He hates accumulating things unless they are small and easily stored, like DVDs. If he buys a paperback book, he throws it away when he finishes it.
To say I have a disordered relationship with stuff and mess is an understatement.
This was on the floor of my room.
This is what happens when 3 jobs, 2 cats, anxiety, full time enrollment, and a dysfunctional romantic relationship intersect with an already messy and disorganized person.
Best part about that nasty sauce pile? It’s in the trash now. Did a 45/15 and 3 months of ick is gone!
Baby steps, motherfuckers.

Small victories! Even in 20/10s, our apartment is kind of overwhelming. I was getting pretty burned out on the living room and had some laundry to do, so I decided to boost my spirits by taking a 20 to dust/wipe down the machines, reorganize the top shelf, and unfuck my laundry caddy (storage for dryer sheets, lingerie bags, Dryel). I took all the stuff that was sitting around for our upcoming party and put it in a bin that I will set aside until the end of next week when it’s actually party time. I’m going to put the reusable grocery bags that were hiding out there in my trunk so I always have them at the grocery store. And you can see my extra bottle of VINEGAR that I was actually looking for earlier today!
And because I completed this “room” in one 20, I have renewed confidence for tackling the rest of the apartment.
(P.S. Sorry if this posts twice. I tried to post it with my Tumblr iPhone app and it didn’t show up… so it might show up later. Because that’s what Tumblr for iPhone does. Posts things days later.)

I spent the weekend out of town. Trips out of town have always been my downfall on cleaning systems that seemed otherwise helpful in the past because I come home really tired and not in the least motivated to deal with unpacking and washing and putting away and straightening up. I could use some encouragement as I face this obstacle that feels incredibly daunting and intimidating. I’d rather not allow this to set me back.
You can do this! The trick is to get everything out of your bag/suitcase ASAP and get the bag back in the closet or wherever it lives. The longer it sits, the more likely it is to become part of your landscape. 20/10 it. I’m guessing it won’t take more than two.
I really need a ‘motivational partner’ or two. Someone I can tell my goals to. Who I can check in with regularly. Idk…maybe I’m being silly. :/
Someone drop ribbitz an ask or reblog/reply if you want an accountability partner!
Ooh, I’m qualified for this! I work ten hour days in a stand up and be busy industry (although not food service). I find on days that I work, I need to do a 20/10 or two AS SOON as I walk in the door. Once I change or sit down, it’s exponentially harder to get back up.
My daily dose of terrifying motivation. One sniff and I’m good for at least a 45/15

I am in a serious rut, I can’t find the motivation to do anything. I have 2 days worth of dishes to do, my bed is still a mess, I am running out of clean socks, and I haven’t showered in 4 days! Even UFYH isn’t working! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! *head desk* How can I get rid of my rut???????
Start a load of laundry (make sure there are socks in there). Do one dish drainer full of dishes. Go make your bed. Put the laundry in the dryer. Go take a shower.
Now, please.

I certainly don’t think so. I usually clean dancing around like a maniac. I figure I can workout and clean up at the same time.
I made some playlists for 20/10s on grooveshark that include a variety of different music.
You should be able to find them here.
Dirty Dance 20/10
Bump N Grind R.Kelly 414
Remix to Ignition R.Kelly 309
In those jeans Genuwine 403
Nice and slow Usher 348
Red light special TLC 346
20/10 Playlist 1
This is 18.5 minutes, not quite up to par, maybe for a day when you’re really struggling.
MGMT Electric Feel
Ke$ha Your love is my drug
Oh Sanders The state of disorder
Colby Callait Brighter than the sun
Foster the People Pumped up kicks
Madonna 20/10
This one is a bit over 20. You won’t care while you’re vogue-ing with your steam mop.
Like a prayer
Open your heart
Material girl
Vogue
Cherish
Theater Geek 20/10
Another one that is just over time at 23, but some of the songs include talking or whatnot. I am not good enough to edit/upload.
La vie boheme from RENT (not the movie)
30/90 from Tick, Tick…BOOM
Defying Gravity from Wicked
All that Jazz from Chicago
Does anyone else have any other kick ass play lists? I like to switch it off a lot.
UfYH playlist time!
I had a dream last night about unfucking my habitat. It was going great. Then my mom came in to wake me up and tell me that I wasn’t at work. Grrrrr. Thanks for ruining my super accomplished dream, Mom :P
I really am trying to get motivated. Our house is a wreck, and the main reason is that we don’t have a dryer, and it’s winter, therefore laundry can’t be hung outside. I know we just need to go to a laundromat, but *sigh* the closest one is like 20 mins away. Maybe Grandma will let us use hers? Idk. There’s probably close to 20 loads though :(
I do like having a clean space, I just can’t stand the upkeep, and Brian’s on strike, since he’s done it so often. I’ll start with surfaces today. That might be a little easier, right? Clean off my dresser, my desks, my file cabinet. Maybe do some before and after, but I’m really embarrassed about it…
Again, I can’t start with my room until Brian wakes up. I guess I should start my accounting homework?
If you have a ton of laundry, sometimes the best thing is to go to the laundromat and deal with it all at once. Start fresh.
And starting with your surfaces is a great idea. It really makes a visual difference, and motivates you to keep going.
You can do this. You just need to get started.
