So, it was the day after Fall Finals, and after ten or eleven long weeks of ignoring the beast of my room, I finally allowed myself to sort of face the collective mess and just reality in general:

My room wasn’t just a sty, my room was completely and totally fucked.

There’s a lot of pictures coming, so I’ve put the rest of the story and the fucked-room evidence under a fancy little cut.

I’ll admit that I am a paper hoarder. I hang on to things in case I will need them, and then, when cleaning stacks of paper, find receipts from three years ago. I should probably try to get a filing system in order.

Yesterday, while looking for my college transcript (note: still not found), I found… all of my high school report cards. I’m turning 26 in less than a month. I’m pretty sure it’s time to ditch those (to be fair, they were in an envelope that my mom gave me of all of my academic stuff from HS and earlier, that I hadn’t gone through since she gave it to me. But still.)

Goal for this afternoon, when I get back from church: PURGE the paper! Go through as many stacks as I can find and recycle everything that I can. Next weekend’s goal (since this is a decently large project): Come up with a filing system. Seriously. It needs to happen.

Any advice on creating a filing system for personal paperwork will be rewarded by me dedicating my next batch of cookies to you.

My filing system is pretty simple: folders are things like “Tax Information,” “Warranty Information,” “Medical Stuff,” “Insurance Documents,” etc. I put the folders in alphabetical order and file newest stuff in the front of each folder.
