Alright, I know that saying you should clean up as you cook makes me sound annoyingly like your mother. I know that you’re busy cooking when you’re cooking, and you can’t possibly clean and cook AT THE SAME TIME. I know this because I thought the same thing.
Then I tried doing it. And OMG it makes everything so much better. The thing about cleaning up as you go is that spills are way easier to wipe up, the dishes are way easier to clean*, and you can put things right back where they came from.
Thanks, unfuckyourhabitat, for reminding me that dishes should not live in the sink. I know my life is better when I get to them while the chicken is sautéing. I know this, but we all need a kick in the pants sometime, to remind us that we shouldn’t be making dumb excuses for not doing dishes.
And the greatest thing ever? After dinner, you can have a nice digestif and not worry about the giant pile of dishes in the sink. How awesome is that?
*It’s probably not a good idea to immediately wash very hot pots and pans, unless you like warped cookware and bad burns.
