Today I did it. I scrubbed my bathroom floor. I feel like rubber and my hands are about to fall off, and I didn’t get the area directly around the toilet (which, counterintuitively, isn’t as bad off due to less traffic volume)—but my bathroom floor is cleaner than ever!
We haven’t actually lived in this place for even a year yet, and I’m pretty certain the majority of ick on and between tiles isn’t even our fault. That, coupled with my complete ignorance re: tile floor cleaning, is why I put this off for awhile.
So yesterday I bought a grout scrubber from the local green store (recycled plastic! bamboo handle!) and today I set to. I learned lots of things. One, scrubbing is hard physical work. Two, knee-pads are important. And three, you need a rag to wipe up the dirt/dirty water—this probably should have been self explanatory.
So here’s the floor midway to clean:
And closer, oh yeah, check that dirt out:
As you can see, my bathroom has A LOT more floor space than the average bathroom! The bathtub is to the left a ways, and there’s a sauna too. But we don’t use it; our landlord charges $5 a use. (Due to abuse by previous tenants, the jerks.)
Hilariously, A. said that even seeing the colouration difference, he didn’t regester the dirty floor as… dirty. Wtf.
So, then, this:
That’s right! Clean!

Excuse my camera phone, it has a scratch or a hair or something. Piece of shit.
I also learned a fourth thing. Flogging Molly and Bonnie Tyler make a very complimentary, energetic playlist for floor scrubbing. Great for a cleaning Revolution. While it didn’t make my cleaning go Faster than the Speed of Night, it was interesting to note the Speed of Darkness as I scrubbed it away. I didn’t need to be Holding out for a Hero, but my hands are making me a bit Bitter and Blue. Still, This Present State of Grace I’m in post-bathroom floor war made it all worth it.
Mostly, everyone, Loving bathrooms Is A Dirty Job But Somebody’s Gotta Do It.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
> I loaded and ran the dishwasher
> I unloaded the dryer.
> I washed the shower curtain.
> I washed my sheets, pillow cases, and mattress cover thing. Currently in dryer.
AND IT’S NOT EVEN 4 YET BWAHA
