Android folks: it’s soon now. Patience, my friends.

As always, if you have the app and like it, consider rating and/or reviewing it. It makes a big difference for small developers like me. If you have it and don’t like it, drop me a line here and we’ll chat.

Will the aneroid app work on kindle fire's?

To be honest, I’m not sure, and we aren’t at that point yet. The app will almost certainly be sold via Google Play, and I don’t yet know about the Kindle app store. So, like everything having to do with the damn Android app, I’ll let you guys know when I know.

That means new challenges! New motivators! NEW ROOMS! If you have the app, update it! (This isn’t a sales pitch because I don’t get anything from updates besides the joy of making you happy.)

Do you have to have a cell phone to use this method? Can you access the app on the PC? I do not have a cell phone.

Right now the app is for iPhones and iPads (coming soon for Android; cool your jets, people), but the UfYH method is fully usable with just a timer and this Tumblr. No special equipment needed.

I love the app, and it even works on my Ipod, which is great. For people who don’t know what it is, it’s “Unfuck Your Habitat” and is filled with motivational tips (such as “get off your lazy ass ;) “) and challenges for each room of your house. UFYH is to cleaning what Jillian Michaels is to exercise. Rough, but effective!

I love everything about it, especially the 20-10 timer, but I was wondering if it would be possible to add a 45-15 timer too?

Adding features isn’t really a simple process, but I do have a two-page single-spaced Word document of all of the additional features and functions people have asked for, for possible future updates.

Right now, all programming energy is focused on the Android app because I fear for my safety otherwise.

Are you going to talk about the app every day? We know you have it, so can you just get back to the unfucking stuff so I don’t have to unfollow you?

(Anonymized by me)

This is a totally valid question. I do talk about the app a lot. If it’s annoying, I apologize. But right now, it’s the only way I get “paid” for doing UfYH, and I’m still paying off the debt I incurred making the app and doing other UfYH-related stuff. It may not seem like a whole lot of effort on my part, but it’s a couple hours worth of work every day. I worked really hard on the app because I thought it was a neat idea and another way people could use UfYH. But the point is taken, and I will try to cut back on the app talk and get back to the challenges and before and afters and whatnot.

I may end up deleting this, because it’s still coming across as defensive, I think, but I wanted to try to explain my side.

ETA: I’m very careful to tag every post about the app with “ufyh app” so if you have Tumblr Savior, it should catch each one.

So the App Store hasn’t put the price back to normal yet, so the app is still only 99 cents. It’s not supposed to still be on sale, but if you have a buck and an iPhone or iPad, well, maybe it’s a sign.

Picked up a bunch of followers today (hi, everyone!) so I’m putting the app on sale for 99 cents to celebrate.

Newbies, here’s the deal with the app: it’s for iPhone/iPad, and if you ask me why there isn’t an Android one, my brain explodes and then there’s no more UfYH due to exploded brain. (Answer: it’s being built as we speak, and I don’t have an ETA yet, and I will keep everyone in the universe updated when I know anything.)

Hello, and greetings from London, England! I love your site and your philosophy. Thanks so much for all the encouragement about approaching cleaning and tidying in a not-crazy way. I also love your app. I wondered if you might consider adding a couple more options under the “Room” dropdown on the tasks we can set ourselves? I’d find an option for hall/landing/entryway area very handy, and also one for garden. Also, any chance we could have more characters in the title field? Thank you!
Any thoughts towards making it so one could, say, sync UnFuck lists between two devices? I have the app for both my iPad and my iPhone, but the iPhone works much better as a portable pocket alarm device for my breaks… And I originally put all my tasks on my iPad. D’oh.

I do have a list that’s several pages long of requests people have for the app that we may try to include in future updates. There is an update coming soon that has additional rooms and challenges, but adding custom rooms and challenges right now would be a fairly major project, and at the moment, the developer is spending all of the available time and energy on the Android version because, quite frankly, I fear for my life otherwise.

The other problem is that making changes to the app aren’t always simple fixes. The coding is pretty complex, and adding one type of functionality can cause six other things to stop working. We had a longer character field in the to-do title field, but that made the app crash every time you tried to add a task, and I was getting very angry emails about it, so we shortened the title field.

Long story short: we’re trying to get the Android version out (but well-made and not buggy, because then I’ll get more angry emails), and then, once that’s done, we can look at adding functionality to the iOS app.

Half-price unfucking! And I bet you find at least a dollar when you’re doing the challenges, so it pays for itself, really. I know I’m biased, but it’s a pretty awesome app.

Get it here.

Just a comment to say how I can't wait for the Android app to be ready. :) This is not me rushing you or complaining or anything; I am just genuinely excited because it looks really great, professional, and it's obvious how much work you're putting into these apps to help unmotivated folks like me. <3

This is the nicest “hurry up” I’ve gotten! :D (Just kidding.) I promise, progress is being made, and we’ll get it out as soon as it’s ready. I just don’t want to rush it, because as much as I know people want to see the Android app made, I know how upset people get if an app they purchase has a few bugs or isn’t working how they expected it to. So I want to have the best possible app before we release it, and that’s still a ways off.

And I promise I’ll let you guys know as soon as there’s news.

If you have the iPhone/iPad app, make sure you download the update. We’ve fixed that pesky to-do list crash bug!

So, I have an update of the app coming out soon. (Anyone who’s been having trouble with the to-do list, this will hopefully fix it once and for all.) With this update, I’ll have the ability to add some stuff.

Here’s what I can add: random 5, 10, and 20-minute challenges; more challenges by room.

Here’s what I can’t add right now (because the amount of coding necessary would put off work on the Android version for a really really long time): rooms to the room selection dial; the ability to add your own custom challenges or items from your to-do list into the challenges; a 45/15 timer. I already know people have asked for them, but it’s not possible to include these in the next update, which we’re trying to get out as quickly as possible to address the to-do and timer bugs.

So, that said: throw some ideas at me for more 5, 10, and 20-minute challenges and challenges by room. I can’t promise I’ll include them all, but it’ll give me a good place to start.

ETA: I can’t do anything with timers, notifications, reminders, etc. right now. Just the challenges.

So reply to, answer, or reblog this post with suggestions (please don’t send them as an ask — I’d like to keep it all in one place). Ideas?

To Unfuck list:
I downloaded the ufyh app today. While it was downloading I unfucked my apps. Then I made a lovely To Unfuck: list. I love UFYH!

Probably my favorite thing about the app is seeing people’s to-unfuck lists. Because you all swear as much as I do.
