I’ve been following Unfuck Your Habitat for a couple months now. I do 20/10s at least once a day, more if I really feel like it.
This website has been such a monumentous (how can that not be a real word?) help in motivating me to clean up after myself. It has actually helped me break very old, very bad habits, such as leaving dishes wherever I set them down, and generally not giving a shit about the state of the house. I’m a self-professed slob, though this website is helping me out of that rut.
Below is my kitchen before I got to work on it one day last week:
And here it is after two or three 20/10s. I got rid of stuff I didn’t need in the kitchen anymore (like a broken coffee maker that took up valuable counter space), put everything away, cleaned, and now look how usable it is!
Below is my awful bedside table area. I don’t know why I have so much crap on it. At this stage, it was serving is a wonderful play area for my cat, who loves to wake me up in the middle of the night by knocking stuff off.
And then after less than 20 minutes, with only the necessities:
I really cannot sing the praises of this website enough. It has truly helped me get my life in order. I’m starting a new job next week, and I don’t feel panicky about not being able to get stuff done when I get home from work: I know that 20 minutes of cleaning will not kill me, and will make a huge difference. Thank you UfYH!

I hate washing dishes! My kitchen was starting to smell a bit funky, too. On Wednesday this week I decided to do a series of twenty-minute cleaning bursts. (I can’t call them 20/10s because I would wander away to do other things for longer than 10 minutes.) I use this method in my work as a copy editor; I don’t know why I didn’t think to do this with housework too!
Not only did I get my kitchen looking spotless, but I have kept it that way! I took the photo this morning (Saturday). It is STILL clean. I have been cleaning my dishes right away and it feels amazing! I love my tiny clean kitchen now! Thank you for the motivation and idea, UFYH!
